Chapter 1

Heavy rain poured down like a deluge, and the wind howled through the mountains. The thatched roof of the hut shook precariously, as if it could be lifted off at any moment.

"My brother is good."

There was a child in the corner of the room, clutching his stomach and whimpering softly.

A little boy, called brother by some, held a broken bowl as he stood in the house. Rain was pouring down, and the roof leaked everywhere. He glanced at the bed where someone lay sleeping, then ran out into the rain, hurrying towards the open shed beside the house.

He fished out a small, black piece of charcoal from the fire and put it in his pocket. Then he ran back into the house.

After returning to the room, I first checked if anyone was on the bed. When I confirmed that the person was still asleep, I felt more at ease.

He stuffed the dark, lumpy thing into the child's hand and whispered:

"Xiaoya is eating quickly, so she doesn't have to wait until she wakes up later."

Han Xiaoya's eyes lit up. She was both wary and watching the person in bed while she shoved WoWo inside.

There were two people in bed. They had a stepmother who had been married for only half a year and had never scolded or hit them. They were only six years old, but they had taken on most of the housework.

Even if they are unhappy, he will not give them food.

Three days ago, their father went up the mountain to hunt. Then it started raining that day and it rained for two consecutive days. They couldn't work because of the rain, so the man stopped giving them food.

Luckily, Han Xiaoshan usually had a pair of little eyes hidden under the stove fire.

These two days they've been taking advantage of the situation when people aren't looking, sometimes relying on these two little heads to get by.

Looking at the little piece left, the rain outside was still pouring. They had a father, yet he hadn't returned...

Han Xiaoya took two bites of the steamed bun and then gave the rest to her brother:

"Even you eat this, bro."

"Goo goo..."

Han Xiaoshan wanted to refuse, but his stomach was being uncooperative. He looked at the steamed buns in his sister's hands and, unable to resist, took one and bit into it. After two bites, he pushed it back.

Han Xiaoya doesn't want to take it so that her brother can eat more.

But just at that moment, there was someone on the bed.

Han Xiaoshan couldn't bother to speak, stuffing handfuls of leftover steamed buns into his younger sister's mouth. He then stood in front of her, vigilant, watching the person lying on the bed.

Even children are afraid of being beaten and desperately want to swallow their homes whole.

Both of them held their breath and stared intently at the person lying on the bed. They didn't even dare to breathe.

After a while, the figure appeared. It wasn't as before, though. Instead of greeting them like usual, it unleashed a torrent of insults upon them. Then, it stared at its own hands in a daze and finally looked towards the corner where they were hiding.

Then his eyes fell on the broken pots and bowls, big and small, all catching the rain inside the house...

Then, he looked up at the roof and suddenly got up and went toward the door.

Indeed, she has transmigrated.

Last night, Su Hongshan woke up. There was an extra part of her memory in her mind. At the time, she thought it was a dream. Besides, it was pitch black, so she didn't pay much attention to it.

But I didn't expect that when I woke up, there really was a place in the "dream"......

Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise. After all, maybe Heaven has given me another chance at life.

Ning'an City's richest man had only one daughter who, despite her family's objections, married her university classmate Hao Lianzhong. However, what they didn't know was that he had been plotting all along to seize the family fortune.

His mother's death, his father's imprisonment, and him taking everything in the family, after acquiring wealth, he became the biggest laughingstock in Ning'an City.

It wasn't until the end that they discovered he had been replacing his mother's vitamin supplements with a slow-acting poison, which led to her death.

His father was imprisoned, and he claims he was framed.

Knowing everything, he went to the man at night. The man had a bucket of gasoline and a match. He set fire to a mansion.

Watching the raging fire, he drove to his mother's grave. He was preparing to see her one last time and end this ridiculous life of his.

Being able to drive but losing control halfway is like a sky-high fire engulfing parcels...

Su Hongshan shook her head, dismissing those thoughts as she took another look around the room.

The rain outside has lessened, and now there is no more dripping inside. The only evidence of the rain is a number of small puddles on the floor.

There is nothing inside the house, but there are two beds and a rough square table in the other room. There are also two children in the corner.

The original owner of that place had stepchildren, Han Xiaoshan and Han Xiaoya.

These two children are twins who are just six years old this year. They are also very unfortunate existences.

It is said that they had a family with a mother who was originally from a wealthy household, but the son fell in love with a farmer's daughter. Since their families disapproved, he eloped with the farmer's daughter. They had two children, but unfortunately, during childbirth, she suffered complications and died.

Both children were born without a mother until half a year ago, when the original owner married someone to be their stepmother.

Even the original owner wasn't a good one.

At home, both big and small chores are assigned to these two children. If they don't do them properly, they get scolded or beaten, sometimes even denied food. As a result, both children are very afraid of this stepmother.

"Xiaoshan is Xiao Ya's classmate."

Su Hongshan beckoned to the two children. She thought to herself, "Since I'm here, it's heaven giving me another chance at life. This time, I have to live well."

Now that I have taken the original owner's place, it is my duty to treat these two children well. As they now have a stepmother, they should not be treated as harshly as the original owner did.

Two children were wary and watching Su Hongshan.

Su Hongshan helplessly thought that the original owner must have done something to make these two children afraid, so they just went to the kitchen without saying a word.

The kitchen's roof was made of thatched grass, with wooden posts surrounding it. The walls were covered in mats. There was no flooring, and the door was a flimsy thing that provided little protection from the rain. Sometimes it wasn't bad, but when it rained, it was many times worse than living without a house at all.

Outside it is raining heavily, while inside it is drizzling. It is a light breeze.

Sometimes the wind is so strong that it prevents a fire from being lit.

Luckily, Su Hongshan's family had lived in Ning'an City before. Although the richest person was Cai Ye, who had built his wealth step by step, he had also grown up with his grandfather in the countryside when he was young and knew how to start a fire because he had used an earthen stove.

Adding water to the pot, fire was lit on the hearth. He went inside with a key in hand.

Han Xiaoshan and Han Xiaoya are no longer huddled in the corner. They are now standing at the door, watching Su Hongshan's every move.

They all rushed into the house.

Su Hongshan didn't say anything after seeing it, she went straight to the bed and moved the quilt. The original owner locked a wooden box. She unlocked it and took out a bag of noodles from inside and placed it on the wooden table:

"Today, we're eating noodles. Xiaoshan, could you please watch the fire for me?"

Kind and approachable with a tone of voice, he was very Korean. But somehow, he didn't dare.

As for eating noodles, he simply didn't believe it.

He wasn't Su Hongshan, and he wasn't in a hurry. He went to get the rainwater container that he had placed inside earlier. He put the noodle bag into the basin, then carried the basin toward the kitchen.

Han Xiaoshan saw that Su Hongshan had a strange back, thinking that something was wrong today. He was afraid of being beaten and didn't dare to hesitate any longer, so he followed her into the kitchen to prepare for cooking fire.

"Brother."

Han Xiaoya timidly pulled on Han Xiaoshan, who was fully patched and had a fluttering skirt. She followed after him.

Su Hongshan was ladling noodles and when she saw her siblings enter, she smiled at them: "The fire is up now. You guys watch it and if you need more firewood, just let me know. I'll add some."
